PSC education system
PSC Education System is designed to help people in realizing their potential by empowering them with basic public speaking as well as communication skills.
The main principles of the PSC education system are:
  • friendly environment,
  • learning by doing,
  • leading by example,
  • setting specific targets to achieve and concentrating on them,
  • providing feedback on performance,
  • step-by-step progression tailored to individual case.
The Competent speaker award is the first level award which can be achieved in the PSC education system.
To obtain this award the candidate should prove mastery of 7 main skills of a public speaker. Some of these skills are related to speech preparation to greater extent, the others are more about speech delivery.
Thus, the competent speaker should:
·        feel easy and confident while performing in public (the basic public speaking skill) - stage 1
·        be able to develop well-structured, impressive speeches under required format, content and time limits (speech preparation skills) - stages 2-4
·        be able to deliver speeches in a confident and expressive manner, and respond in accordance with the feedback from the audience (speech delivery skills) - stages 5-7
These main skills are captured by 7 stages of the Competent Speaker Education Scheme:
1.      Overcome your fear
2.      Research
3.      Structure your speech
4.      Support your speech
7.      Manage the audience
The main rules for the Competent Speaker Education Scheme:
·        Only members of the Club are allowed to pursue Competent Speaker Education Scheme
·        The candidate should examine the nature of each stage and comprehend the main elements of the focused skills, and decide which skills are needed to be improved.
·        We recommend to start from the first stage, passing through all the steps in the given sequence, however, the order might be changed upon the desire of the candidate.
·        The core of the education process is making performances (home prepared public speeches), taking on roles (special administrative tasks) and active participation in ad hoc discussions (hot topic discussion, round table, etc.).
·        While making performances and roles at a given stage the candidate should concentrate on the nature of the skill which is central for the stage. Some performances and roles fit better for particular stages and thus recommended to be taken on.
·        We can provide a variety of feedback for each stage (skill) mastership evaluation you can choose from:
  • Self-evaluation (video recording of performance)
  • Scoring by the audience (by using questionnaires)
  • Formal evaluation by the members of the PSC Education team (upon request)
·        The completion of a stage is determined by the candidate himself / herself, however, minimum of two performances is a must for each stage.
·        The Competent speaker degree is awarded to the candidate after completion of the 7th stage upon decision of the PSC Executive Committee
·        The Candidate might be put to the special test in order to prove his / her abilities as public speaker (such as holding public speech outside the PSC meeting place) before awarding the degree.
